RECAP: Girls 2x7 - "Video Games"

What I can only assume was meant to be an emotional and sentimental episode was actually arguably the most uninteresting and dry episode of the season. The focus is on Jessa and her absent father whom she hasn't spoken to in years. Could this be exactly what Jessa needs while dealing with her broken marriage? Prepare yourself for a sluggish episode of failed remorse and of course Hannah's nudity because as we all know, it's not a Girls episode unless some part of Hannah's private parts is unclothed. Hey, that would be a great drinking game! Take a shot every time you see Hannah's boobs, ass or va-jay-jay...if you're of age of course.

You Are the Cushion:
Hannah joins Jessa to visit her estranged father in upstate New York. They hadn't spoken in a long time and normally she would never go to visit him but Jessa said she took it as a sign when she received an illegible text from him out of the blue. Hannah tries to tell her that it was probably an accident or a butt text, but Jessa is convinced that her father sent it to her on purpose and that she is meant to visit him.
Enter Jessa's father; a skinny man who obviously doesn't take care of himself very well. He appears tired and dirty but is thrilled to see his daughter. Hannah, Jessa, and her father arrive home and are greeted by his wife Petula. She is so glad that Hannah is there because Jessa hates her and she believes that Hannah is "the cushion". No pressure right?

While Jessa and her father catch up, Hannah hangs with Petula over by the rabbit cages. Petula describes life as a video game. We all need to grow a pair and go on to the next level. You're either with me or against me and if you're against me, I'll take you down. Very intellectual Petula, very intellectual. As Hannah cuddles one of the rabbits, Petula's son Frank joins them. He is very awkward but Hannah can't quite put her finger on why she is attracted to him. Maybe she has a thing for pathetic and nerdy men?

Petula prepares a nice meal outside on a picnic table for the family. Hannah struggles eating her meal when she finds out that the main course is the rabbit she was cuddling with earlier. Poor rabbit! Jessa calls her out and tells her to grow up and that its just food. A bit harsh, but it is true. The dinner is interrupted by one of Frank's friends named Tyler. Quite the improvement from little 'ol Frank over there. Tyler asks Hannah and Jessa if they'd like to hang out with him and Frank after dinner. Jessa declines and says that she came to spend time with her father. He must have missed that memo because he says that he has plans with Petula that he just can't get out of...a special lecture. Man that has gotta hurt. It does and with that, the girls join the boys on a good old fashion joy ride doing whip-its. Don't try this at home folks!
Hannah freaks out and demands they stop the car. She storms off towards a random cemetary but is stopped along the way by Frank. Hannah goes off on a rant, as per usual, but is hindered by Frank kissing her. The two start to get busy on the ground...except it's not too busy because Frank literally climaxes within 8 seconds! How disappointing. Could that have been his first time? Oh lord I hope so!

He's Not Coming Back:

After what Hannah assumed was a sex-capade but was completely mistaken, Jessa confesses that she doesn't think she was in the right frame of mind when she came to visit her father. We don't think he was either. The next morning, her father joins Jessa on the swingset in the yard. Jessa unloads on him expressing that she has waited for him to get his act together, that she went through tons of shit because he wasn't around. She says, "You act like you want me here but you don't know how to act with me... I'm the child!". He is phased by this and convinces her to stay a bit longer so they can have a nice family meal with some of her favorite foods. Jessa agrees.
Hannah encounters Frank who has apparently been waiting for her to get up and accuses her of using him for sex. I think I speak for everyone when I say...bahahaha! Hannah explains that it wasn't even sex because he came on her thigh crease. TMI? He admits that it was his second time and that his first time was with a girl who lived nearby named Rihanna. Yeah, right...
Jessa's father drops Hannah and Jessa off at a market to buy some food for dinner and says he'll be right back to pick them up. As they sit and wait for him to return, Jessa confesses that he is not coming back because this is what he does. I'm pretty sure my heart sunk a little when she said that. The two friends walk home, groceries in hand.

While Hannah battles a painful UTI in the bathroom, Jessa decides to sneak out and leaves Hannah a note reading "See you around my love. X". Oh boy, this can't be good. Solo, Hannah waits at the train station and decides to call her parents. Things start off a bit grumpy on the phone but she explains that she called to thank them for raising her and being there for her. She is grateful for all they have done for her despite the fact that they are so different and have nothing in common. It would appear that Hannah has a new respect for her parents. Her mother initially is touched but then gets angry and says she is not falling for "this crap". Very nice mom, very nice.
